Nizami chicken is a delicious chicken dish that is prepared in yoghurt gravy and is simmered until the flavours read in every piece thoroughly. Most people think that Nizami Chicken is the name of the dish but naming the dish after the category of people it was prepared for was a simple tradition that was followed in earlier times. So, this style of cooking with the “Khada Masala” or whole spices was enjoyed by the Nizams of Hyderabad and hence the name. The dish tastes as rich and delicious as it looks but it is not half as complicated as it might seem. You can cook it in less than an hour and enjoy it with rice or naan. Cook this for your next get together with family and friends. To begin, follow this step by step recipe below!

How to make Nizami chicken
Wash the chicken and prepare a powdered masala
Start by washing the chicken pieces thoroughly with fresh water and pat them dry. Now, add cashews, red chillies, poppy seeds, turmeric powder and salt to a grinder and grind a fine powder.
Prepare the curry paste
Add oil to a pan and add in the ginger-garlic paste to it. Saute until it cooks and add the chopped onions. Saute for a minute and add in the bay leaf and cook until it becomes fragrant. Now add in the chicken pieces and cook them with the onions.
Add the yoghurt, simmer and serve!
At this point, add the yoghurt and once it combines with the pieces, add in your red chilli powder, coconut milk cream and salt to season. Cook the chicken covered for at least 10-15 min. Turn the flame off, garnish with coriander and fresh cream. Serve with hot rotis!
